Move preparation
Metro Atlanta moving checklist
From an Atlanta apartment to a home in Decatur, Marietta, Fayetteville or McDonough, a little preparation makes moving day easier. Adjust this timeline to the time you have available.
Create my personalized planTwo to three weeks before
- Choose your move date and prepare an inventory of rooms, boxes and large furniture. Share both locations with your mover to confirm coverage.
- Ask property management about elevator reservations, loading access, truck parking and insurance paperwork. Confirm rules at both addresses.
- Tell your mover about stairs, long carries, narrow doorways and specialty items such as pianos, safes, art or mirrors. Provide dimensions and photos for an accurate scope.
- Sort items to keep, donate or remove. Discuss junk removal separately if you need haul-away.
One week before
- Pack nonessential items in manageable boxes. Label each box with its destination room. Customers pack their boxes; packing supplies are available as an add-on.
- Arrange utility and internet changes for the dates you need. Keep confirmations accessible.
- Prepare a first-night bag with bedding, toiletries, chargers, clothing and everyday essentials.
- Discuss mattress covers and shrink wrap before moving day. Furniture pads and moving equipment are included; mattress covers and shrink wrap cost extra.
The day before
- Confirm the agreed arrival window, addresses, contact numbers and access arrangements with the moving company.
- Clear hallways, stairs and doorways. Make a separate plan for children and pets.
- Keep medicines, documents, valuables and essential keys with you. Use qualified specialists for hazardous, gas or electrical work.
- Identify furniture needing disassembly and reassembly, which is included. Photograph existing condition of fragile or specialty pieces.
Moving day and arrival
- Walk through the origin with the crew and identify anything staying behind. Point out fragile items and access concerns.
- Direct boxes and furniture to the right rooms at the destination. Check condition and reassembly before completing your walkthrough.
- Check cupboards, closets and storage areas at the origin before leaving. Keep both properties’ contact details handy.
- Unpack essentials first. For a piano, ask a qualified technician about post-move inspection or tuning.
