Moving Around Metro Atlanta: What Changes From City to City

October 23, 2026 · 4 min read · Compass Liberty Express

Intown Atlanta

Moves in Midtown, Buckhead, Downtown, and Old Fourth Ward usually mean high-rises: freight elevators, loading docks, certificates of insurance, and reserved time windows. The buildings are strict, but if you reserve the elevator and tell us the rules up front, these moves run smoothly.

The close-in suburbs

Decatur, Brookhaven, Smyrna, and Sandy Springs mix older homes with apartment complexes. Watch for narrow driveways, mature trees over the street, and parking permits in some neighborhoods. A 16-ft truck is often the right call here.

The outer metro

Out in Cobb, Gwinnett, Henry, and Fayette counties — Marietta, Lawrenceville, McDonough, Fayetteville and beyond — moves are mostly houses and townhomes with driveways. They're simpler logistically, but distances add up: a move from Lawrenceville to McDonough is a real drive, so crew size and an early start matter more.
